Inspired by the famous 1972 World Championship match between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky (aka The Match of the Century). At the height of the cold war, a scrappy kid from Brooklyn, Bobby Fischer, single-handedly rose to the highest rating ever achieved at that time, defeating every grandmaster and every soviet champion in his way before decisively clenching the world championship title from Boris Spassky in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1972. The set used was specially designed for this event and Tempest has reimagined it for the modern era. The set is beautiful in its straightforwardness, one might even say iconic. Simultaneously minimalist and thoroughly modern.

Tournament Regulation height: 3.75" Kings, in Natural Boxwood & Ebonized Boxwood.

All Tempest modern classic chess sets include a hand-made black lacquer storage box, 2 extra queens, and 2 soft storage pouches.
